When asked of the secret of his 50 – year marriage to Clara Ala Bryant, Ford Motor Company founder Henry Ford was said to have answered, “I stick to one model”.

In yet another edition of Ministering to Ministers, CBN Asia hosted its partner pastors/workers and their wives to a day filled with music, fun and inspiration last January 24, 2015 at Elements at Eton Centris.

Guests were welcomed into the venue by the pretty ushers from Jesus Christ the Savior International Assembly. Singing ensued as the JCSIA music ministers led the crowd into a refreshing praise and worship. It was a sight to behold, an assembly of God’s servants lifting their hearts in adoration to the One who called them.

The fun began as soon as Pastor Gene de Leon put things into order. Women were asked to sit on the right side of their husbands, “because they’re always right!” This elicited laughter from the crowd. To further drive his point, he went on to quote Senator Miriam Defensor – Santiago’s one – liner about them, “Men are like horoscope, they’re always wrong.” Pastor Gene also urged the gentlemen in attendance to change their ways, men must be the one making coffee for their women. The Bible says it so, for in it, He – brews. Enough to say, these words brought the house down and set the tone for a unique retreat for our church partners.

But he’s just getting started, Pastor Gene then called up on stage winners after winners of brand new Bibles. One only needs to be at the right place at the right time when he called out these following qualifiers: Who married their former girlfriends? Who’s celebrating a birthday today? Who’s celebrating a wedding anniversary? Atty. Froilan and Mrs. Marizon Valdez won it hands down, they’re celebrating their 33 years of wedded bliss. And the crowd favorite, “Who among here fulfills Leviticus 13:40? Seven bold men of God stood up and claimed their prizes.

It was then Pastor Gene introduced us to ‘Pedro Bon Appetit’. With that, everyone enjoyed the hearty meal set by Josiah’s. Did I mention earlier that coffee kept on brewing all morning and well into the afternoon? Brewed coffee flowed much to the heart’s content of guests and CBN staff alike. When all were full and satisfied, then came the best part.

It’s time for these couples to learn the how to’s in Keeping Your Marriage Ablaze, featuring the husband and wife tandem of Peter Kairuz, CBN Asia’s President & CEO and The 700 Club Asia host and Mrs. Christine Kairuz. The dynamic duo underlined the Biblical principles on marriage taught by the apostle Paul on Ephesians.

Wives were exhorted to submit to their own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, as also Christ is the head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. Therefore, just as it is expected of the church to subject to Christ, let the wives be to their own husbands in everything. You don’t drive and wreck the family van then later call the husband to ask, “Hon, do you love me?”

Husbands were then urged with the words of the apostle to, “…love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for it,…So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself.”

Encouraged with these words, couples renewed their vows to one another and to God, Him at the center of their marriages.

So what’s the Bible’s secret to a life – lasting marriage? Let the Kairuz’s tell. You just got to be there!
