Amazing Grace!

Amazing grace!
How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind but now I see

‘Twas grace that taught my heart to fear
And grace my fears relieved
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed

Through many dangers, toils and snares
I have already come
‘Tis grace has brought me safe thus far
And grace will lead me home

The Lord has promised good to me
His Word my hope secures;
He will my shield and portion be,
As long as life endures

Yet, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
And mortal life shall cease,
I shall posess within the veil,
A life of joy and peace
.

When we’ve been there ten thousand years
Bright shining as the sun,
We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise
Than when we’ve first begun.

Amazing grace!
How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind but now I see.

Written by a slave trader named John Newton, Amazing Grace undeniably was and still is a fundamental part of  Christian worship. It is a simple statement of faith: forgiveness and redemption are possible regardless of sins committed and that the soul can be delivered only through the mercy of God, His Amazing Grace.

At Spoken or Sung, we will list a collection of songs that stood the test of time not just for their enduring appeal but the truth that they inspire and instruct about God, His truth, His grace, and His love.

If  you were to make a list of your own, what songs would make the top 10? Share it with us!
